A little over a decade ago, Ekta and I decided to spend the rest of our lives together. While we were fresh out of B School, we never had any concrete plans about where we wanted to go in our lives. A few years later, thanks to some incredible people that surround us even today, the creative energies within us, which had earlier manifested in various forms of performance art - dancing, music, acting; found a home and expression in photography. Before we realised it, we had given up any possibility of a structured way of life to plunge into what can best be described as the joy and fear of unpredictability. It’s been somewhere between 4 & 5 years now, and our decision to photograph & film weddings has led to such a heartwarming bundle of memories. We’ve had amazing travels, met awesome people and found so much love in the most unexpected places. We’ve been embraced by every single family, and we truly feel honoured to have so many deep connections around the planet. Even today, we don’t know where the road we are on is leading to, but it has all been about being honest to this pursuit, step by step, day after day. People often ask us, “how did you discover photography?” We have always believed that it is photography that found us. And so, today, we wish you all a happy world photography day, and whatever form of pursuit you are on, wish you the very best for it. Smiti & Nilesh // An Ode to A Lost Era . The first evening of Smiti & Nilesh’s wedding was one where each and every soul present at the celebration connected with an almighty power through the route of love. The ones that took us all on this journey were the amazing Nizami Bandhu. I remember asking Smiti how she was feeling that evening, and she said, “this is the most magical night of my life” 1. We began the evening with some understated, timeless portraits of Smiti & Nilesh 2. As Smiti sat down to get her mehendi done, her father was the first one to check up on his ‘bitiya’ - his adorable way of addressing her 3. Nilesh too, made sure that she kept smiling throughout the night 4. And then, the Nizami Bandhu started weaving their magic 5. Nilesh carried that magic over to Smiti as best as he could 6. The music that night cut across ages, nationalities and languages. We were all one 7. Smiti clasped Nilesh’s hand tightly. There was a different force in the air that night 8. The Nizami Bandhu connected to the divine and became a channel for all of us to experience something we’d never experienced before 9. As they dedicated a song to Smiti, the crowd sang along. We were all singing for her 10. And then it rained, a single drop . I’m getting goosebumps writing this, and I’m sure I speak for everyone present at that moment, that it was an incredible honour for us to be there that day. Thank you, Smiti and Nilesh . Thank you Nizami Bandhu for all the love you gave us that night
